BUS 102: International Student Career Seminar for Business - Free Tuition + Paid Job at MSU

BUS 102: International Student Career Seminar for Business is a tuition-free one-credit course for first/second-year international students that are interested in a career in business, and who are looking to develop their career readiness.

Course features include:

  • One credit, 10-week course, meeting once per week during spring semester 2018, with a focus on preparation for a career in business. Class topics include networking with employers, interviewing, career strategies for international students, work authorization options under U.S. immigration law, and resume/cover letter writing. Course tuition will be paid by the Program.

  • A guaranteed 10 hour/week job with Residential & Hospitality Services (RHS) on campus to build your resume and develop valuable job skills, to be held (at minimum) for the duration of the 10-week course. Pay rate is $9.50/hr during the week, $10.50/hr on weekends, and the job will be provided to you once the course begins. If a student has another on-campus job, we may consider allowing them to continue holding their existing job, rather than taking on the new job with RHS.

  • An International Student Career Certificate indicating the completion of the course

Required documents:

  1. Resume (how to write a resume)

  2. Essay Question (250 words max): This course requires students to work 10 hours a week on campus with RHS, likely in one of the dining halls, so that they can develop experience for their resume and build skills that are valuable to employers. If a student is currently holding another job, we will consider allowing them to continue holding that job instead. What are some of the skills you might develop from having a job like this? What skills in particular might be valuable to your future employer?

After submitting your application, the committee will review the candidates and may ask finalists for more materials.
